Shenandoah High School Zeps advance in USA Today Best Mascot contest

Shenandoah_OHZeps advance!
The Shenandoah High School Zeps of Sarahsville, Ohio, clinched the USA Today High School Sports Best Mascot in Ohio category with 147,305 votes, or 46.2% of the total cast among the five contenders. No-doubt thanks to airship fans across the U.S.,  the Zeps rallied in the final hours to edge out the Norwalk Truckers, who finished second with 131,795 votes (41.4%).The 51 winners nationwide now advance to the second round, where they will be divided among six regions.

One high school mascot for each of the six regions will advance to the National Voting based on the highest number of eligible votes received. There is no limit to the number of times an individual can vote.

Voting in Round 2 has started. The Zeps are in Region 4, Choice G:

The competition is formidable, with the Centralia, IL Orphans (a misnomer; a sportswriter only said they looked like orphans!) leading the pack against other teams named the Honkers, Hodags, Nimrods and Fighting Jeeps.

The regional round began at 11 a.m. ET March 6 and ends at 3 p.m. ET March 14. Vote early, vote often! It’s easy. Once you’ve voted for the Zeps, click on “Vote Again in Ohio,” wait for the new Verify Code, enter it and click “Vote For This Mascot.” Repeat as often as you like. Open to residents of the US and DC. Thanks!
