Lynnfield, MA (August 03, 2012)
The Hood® Blimp is officially back for the 2012 season. The Hood Blimp, famous for representing the leading dairy brand in New England, will make its Boston debut on Saturday, August 4th, over the 7:10 p.m. ET Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins game at Fenway Park. To celebrate its return, Hood is launching the “Hood Blimp Spotting”campaign. Beginning on August 4th, each photo of the Hood Blimp shared via social media channels will give fans a chance to win Hood/Red Sox prize packs including items like a Hood Ice Cream party, Red Sox tickets and a ride in the Hood Blimp. In addition, from now until October, Hood will donate $1* from the sales of each container of Hood Red Sox Ice Cream and Novelties, the Official Ice Cream of the Boston Red Sox, to the Red Sox Foundation, the team’s official charity program.
“For fans of all ages, seeing the Hood Blimp in the sky is a treasured part of summer here in New England – just like Hood Ice Cream,” said Red Sox Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Red Sox Foundation Meg Vaillancourt. “Now, through Hood’s generous donation to the Red Sox Foundation, fans can help support programs for at-risk kids too. It’s a great way the whole family can help others!”
To participate in the “Hood Blimp Spotting” program, spot the Blimp overhead in New England and snap and post a picture to the contest tab on HP Hood’s Facebook page or tweet the photo with the #HoodBlimp hashtag. For each original submission, one lucky winner will be selected each week to receive a Hood/Red Sox prize package. Entries are limited to one per person, per day. As a thank you for posting, entrants will be rewarded with a coupon that can be used towards Hood’s Red Sox Ice Cream and Novelty products. With every purchase of Hood Red Sox Ice Cream or Novelties through the end of the regular season, Hood will donate a portion of the sales to the Red Sox Foundation (up to $100,000).
“The Hood Blimp is an iconic New England figure, and along with the launch of our new ice cream flavors this summer, we know the Blimp’s return will be another treat for our fans,” said Lynne Bohan, spokesperson for Hood. “As the Official Dairy of the Red Sox, we’re proud to promote our partnership with the region’s beloved baseball team by supporting such as a worthy cause as the Red Sox Foundation.”
In addition to filming a number of Red Sox games broadcast on New England Sports Network (NESN) and Fox Sports with an on-board high definition camera, the Blimp will fly over a variety of New England events in August and September. This includes 12 Red Sox home games, the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon in Providence, the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival, the Newport International Boat Show, and more.
