Featuring an informal presentation by Ed Ogden, Retired Public Relations Specialist, Goodyear Airship Operations: “Reminiscences of life with the Goodyear blimps”
After holding a few typical part-time jobs, Ed landed a field wage temporary position with the Goodyear blimp Columbia in Carson, Calif. in Nov. 1974. He served as crew member and base assistant to the operation’s clerk, and during summer months, traveled as a temporary replacement for those pulled from the staff. He was offered a permanent position with the blimp America in Spring, Texas in summer, 1977.
From 1977 until his promotion to Public Relations Representative in 1987, he was the operation’s clerk as well as a general crewman.
In 1992 he moved to Ohio with the transfer of the blimp America operation from Spring, Texas to Suffield, Ohio. He served at the Wingfoot Lake airship base with the GZ22 Spirit of Akron, followed by the GZ20 Spirit of Goodyear, and historic transition to the semi-rigid Zeppelins Wingfoot 1, Wingfoot 2 and Wingfoot 3.
