September 6, 2015 – Special Program Commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Loss of the USS Shenandoah

USS Shenandoah moored to a portable mast, ca 1924-1925On Sunday, September 6 at 2 PM, a ceremony will be held in the center of Ava, Ohio, (about four miles North of I-77 – Exit 28, along Route 821) to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the crash of the U.S. Navy’s first rigid airship.

The program will include a gun salute by the local VFW Post and the presentation of The Heroes of the Shenandoah by Judi Tarowski (a professional storyteller).

The Shenandoah museum curated by Theresa Rayner will be open for visitors to visit and see the collection of items from the crash of the Shenandoah.

Aaron Kierns, author of America’s Forgotten Airship Disaster – The Crash of the USS Shenandoah will be the master of ceremonies.

It is recommended that attendees bring lawn chairs for the event.

The program will be held rain or shine.
