Parade Balloons

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades started on November 27, 1924. In 1927 they began using air-filled balloons, and in 1928 they began using the high flying helium-filled balloons we see today.. Goodyear built the helium character balloons until 1982, and did so in the Gadsden GA and Litchfield AZ plants. They were then shipped to the Wingfoot Lake hangar where they were tested, the rope rigging was attached and were then taken out of the hangar to be sure they could be properly handled before being shipped to New York City.
